Desktop & Laptop Testing Use Cases

Applies to:
Windows 10/11macOSMicrosoft 365 AppsDocument Protection

Overview

Desktop and laptop testing forms the foundation of DuoKey DKE validation, as these platforms provide the most comprehensive feature set for Microsoft 365 applications. This testing validates core encryption, decryption, and access control functionality in the primary work environment.

Use Case 1: Document Creation & Protection

Purpose

Validate that DuoKey DKE can successfully encrypt documents at creation time and that the encryption process is transparent to end users while maintaining security.

What to Test

  • Document encryption during creation
  • Label application workflow
  • User experience during protection process
  • Verification that Microsoft cannot decrypt content

Why This Matters

This is the fundamental use case that proves DKE works as intended. If users cannot easily protect documents or if the encryption fails, the entire solution fails.

Prerequisites

  • Windows 10/11 workstation with Microsoft 365 Apps installed
  • User account with DKE pilot permissions
  • DKE sensitivity label configured: "Strictly Confidential – DKE Pilot"
  • DuoKey Cockpit access for verification
1

Launch Application

  • Open Microsoft Word or Excel
  • Create a new document
  • Add sample sensitive content
2

Apply DKE Label

  • Navigate to Sensitivity → Select "Strictly Confidential – DKE Pilot"
  • Observe any prompts or authentication requests
  • Note the time taken for label application
3

Save and Verify

  • Save the document to OneDrive or SharePoint
  • Monitor for encryption indicators in the UI
  • Verify document shows protection status
